“Lindis Pass blocked after fatal car, motorcycle crash”

The Lindis Pass is blocked after a serious crash this morning left one person dead. “It happened about 8.30am about 15km from the summit and involved two vehicles,” a police spokesperson said. “Motorists are advised to take an alternate route, as the road is expected to be closed for some time.” Waka Kotahi confirmed the closure on X (Twitter). No detour is available, the transport agency said, and the closure is expected to last “until further notice”. “Avoid the area, use an alternative route or delay your travel through the Pass this morning.” Police confirmed the fatality early this afternoon.
