“Iowa Breaks Women’s Basketball Attendance Record at Kinnick Stadium”

Iowa’s coach had a bold plan: play a women’s basketball game outdoors at Kinnick Stadium and break attendance records. The “Crossover at Kinnick” exhibition game became a resounding success, with the Hawkeyes winning 94-72 against DePaul and drawing a massive crowd of 55,646 fans. This attendance nearly doubled the previous record of 29,619, set in 2002.

Iowa’s head coach, Lisa Bluder, was ecstatic, saying, “Fifty-five thousand, breaking the record, getting to play outside… It was a dream. It really was. It was just fabulous.”

Even Iowa guard Caitlin Clark, the reigning national player of the year, found it hard to believe, stating, “Fifty-five thousand? That’s pretty incredible.” This event not only set a new attendance record but also left a lasting impression on players and fans, showcasing the immense support for women’s basketball in Iowa.
